GUILDFORD CATHEDRAL OCCASIONAL SINGERS
We are an enthusiastic voluntary choir attached to Guildford Cathedral. We draw on a membership of approximately 60 to sing the services on about twelve Sundays a year when the Cathedral Choir is on holiday, and for Special Services like the Christmas Midnight Mass, and the Easter Vigil and Ordinations. The services are traditional, and we enjoy singing challenging music in keeping with those services. We join with the Cathedral Choir for Special Occasions and also sing in other Cathedrals from time to time. Rehearsals are held on the Friday before a singing Sunday, and a warm up practice before the services themselves. There are also occasional rehearsals on other Fridays. Music is distributed about two weeks before the service so that the music can be learnt before the practices. A register is maintained, and singers are expected to attend on a regular basis. (The name "occasional" refers to the sung services, not to the attendance!) We have several social functions during the year, including an Annual Barbeque, and a Christmas Social. |
